May 10, 1970

College student Phillip Lafayette Gibbs, who was participating in a demonstration to protest recent killing of students at Kent State University in Ohio, and high school James Earl Green, who was walking home from work, are killed just after midnight. The campus demonstration was also prompted by rumors that local civil rights activist Charles Evers and his wife had just been killed.
